Summers Encore

My favorite spot, where I start every morning. This is what I miss most once summer ends.

It’s the last full week of August, and I’d like to hit the pause button.

I’m not ready for September or for school to start. I’m not ready for cooler mornings, bare trees, and the short grey days that will be here by November.

But I think what I’m really not ready for is another season to be over.

This summer was probably my favorite ever. There weren’t many cares or worries, just pool days and sunshine and a lot of relaxing and rest from the harder seasons.

It makes me sad to have it come to a close.

Because once this summer is gone, it’s gone forever. It will only live on in pictures and memories, another summer in the books.

Time doesn’t stop for anyone, and nowhere is that more evident than in watching my kids grow older. Another birthday. Another school year. Another season of their childhood quietly passing.

Maybe that’s why I want August to stay.

I know I can’t stop time. I just wish it wouldn’t move quite so quickly.
